The COMPLEXITIES/CLUSTERFUCK of the London Riots. My thoughts.

After hours on twitter, in discussions, reading peoples views, on the phone with friends trapped in Peckham, or unable to get home to Tottenham area, one thing is clear.

The overwhelming majority of Londoners are disgusted with the way some people have chosen to destroy their own communities, making people homeless, and local business redundant, not to mention the aesthetic damage to already deprived areas. I feel so sad about the disregard for people's lives and livelihoods.

I am angry, and upset by what I see, and as the fiasco unravels and escalates it seems evident that there are a MUTLITUDE of issues to be addressed. One friend called it a clusterfuck. Can't disagree.

So with all these ideas flying around, and fingers pointing, lets have a look at some of the thoughts. By the way, these are just the thoughts rolling around my head after the last few days. you don't have to get all upset if you don't agree!!

DIFFERENT PEOPLE FOR DIFFERENT REASONS

criminals, organising and looting. Opportunists, jumping in for the ride, or freebies, anger at the police, general anger towards society, people with political motives, people who have no idea why they're there, people who went cos their mates are going, people who feel that have nothing to lose.

It's evident, this is no longer about Mark Duggen.

With all these extra people jumping in for their own motives, it's difficult to say what it's all really about. As people are doing it for different reasons as far as I can see.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE PARENTS?

The majority of looters and rioters are 18 and under. They likely live with their parents. BBC news last night, but out a call for parents to locate their children, and bring them home. Clearly, as riots continued well into the night, there's something to be said about parental control. If there are riots in your city, and your kid is out til 4am, something is wrong. It seems they feel they don't have to go home, or do anything anyone else tells them ,and that includes their parents.

I ASK: why is this!? What has gone so wrong, that CHILDREN are not accountable to their families.

We are living with a huge number of FATHERLESS CHILDREN. To me, this is a MAJOR problem. I know this from dealing with my own little brother, who is not a 'bad kid', but he's done some stupid things like lots of teenagers do. Like I did. Trying to keep someone in check who has a 'you cant tell me what to do attitude' is often fighting a losing battle.

Of course there are plenty of single mums doing a fabulous job, so don't get it twisted. But lets not pretend that families with less income and without the guidance of a father are unaffected. We need good dads, as well as our bloody amazing mums.

We know, there are parents who are not PARENTING their kids. They're letting them do what ever they want. Why? There are also parents, together and separated that are doing their damndesd to keep their kids staight, but find it almost impossible in the neighbourhoods where they live, where there are high levels of crime and alcoholism.

It is a parent's responsibility to nurture, guide and ultimately punish their children. But this is no way the only factor at work here.

These kids know the difference between right and wrong. And they have chosen to loot and burn down homes and businesses.

I believe society has been moving away from the authority of parents over recent decades, to the extent that some kids feel they don't have to answer to their parents, and some parent's dont feel the need to properly discipline their children.

WHY DONT THESE KIDS GIVE A SHIT?

First thing, this is a minority of young people. The majority of young people are at home, horrified by what they see. It's not 'young people' as a whole that are a problem, I've met numerous inspirational, forward thinking teenagers in my work with kids over the years, and there is a section of society, young and old that seem not to give a shit about much.

Some call it the underclass. It's the bunch of people who leave school with few qualifications, few prospects, and a mind state a bit different to what the rest of society expects of them. But again, I don't think it's all 'underclass' kids involved, i think a heap of people have jumped on the bandwagon.

When I see some of the young people involved laughing, and sitting on the floor in a 'i'm not moving' stance, I see the whole 'YOU CANT DO NOTHING TO ME, ILL SUE' attitude. When the kids are telling the adults what to do and how to do it, Houston- we have problem. How is possible, a bunch of kids have take over to such an extent. What is this, Lord Of The Flies??

What has happened in our society that some of our children are behaving this way? Are so completely devoid of thinking of the consequences, that don't give a fuck about their own community.

A 14 year old told a news reported he was rioting cos he wanted his taxes back. You don't pay taxes, and the country don't run on fresh air. So WTF are you on about. He's a kid, he doesn't have a clue, like most kids. So you can't hate his ignorance. Someone's probably told him that's why they're doing it and he's going along. Actually our taxes are probably gonna go up now.

It seems that some young people feel the world owes them, they don't identify with the prospect of working hard for good pay, and feel they should do any job they deem to be 'below them'. Many are not motivated to work at all, but still feel they should have whatever they want.

If any people do not feel connected and valued by it's community, they will be unhappy. My question is, what are the factors causing deep rooted unhappiness and discontent, because we are NOT BORN LIKE THIS AS CHILDREN. We're just not. Something's been happening along the way.

With that said, all of the people involved in these riots are not dumb. They know the difference between right and wrong. They know they'd be angry if someone robbed them, or burnt their house down, but they don't seem to be able to connect the dots and not do it.

To me, I cannot get down with someone fucking up their own community and neighbours for any reason. They will have to live in it, and so will their neighbours. If you know what it's like to have nothing, why would you make it worse. Or do you feel you have nothing to lose?

To get it in perspective though, there's no one really dying of hunger in this country. In other places in the world, if you dont earn your keep and pitch in you will literally starve. That doesn't mean anyone should live in shit conditions. But you gotta put the work in for yourself. There are adults in this society that don't feel that's the case.

There's a don't give a fuck attitude. Why don't they give a fuck? This is the bit people don't seem to understand so well.

Are their parents caring for them, nuturing, supporting them to be their best? I'm sure some are... I'm sure I've heard some saying 'shut the fuck up' to them on the bus.

As one tweet read: 'this is how they know to express their anger'. Let's ask them: what are they angry about?

There are a number of Londoners who express they have felt something brewing for a while, a general discontent, an undercurrent of anger. Let's find out why. Indeed, the police have been expressing for 6 months that something like this was coming, so clearly! It's not a surprise to everyone.

I myself said 6 months ago, after seeing the cuts Torys were making to front line services, that assist the most vulnerable in society... it's like the 80s Thatcha era,there'll be riots.

It's true Youth Clubs have been closed, but have previous generations rioted because they were 'bored', and had 'nothing to do'?

To set it straight, there are many guys out there looting, that look like 20 year old men. Mums and daughters going out looting also. Not just kids, though it seems the majority are under 18 and just hyping; jumping on the bandwagon of getting free shit.

You gotta ask the question though: How the fuck did it get to this???

IT'S THE MEDIA THEY FEED PEOPLE LIES!!

How many parents complain that kids don't play out any more. A nation of children raised on computer games and dvd's. More online friends, less real life friends. Practicing your shooting skills from a young age on a game, where the consequences are nil.

The conception that youth and wealth are preferred over all else, and the aim is to at least LOOK like you have it all, nevermind if you do or don't. There's an obsession with material wealth. We are fed that we need to have things to be worthwhile people.

People are disillusioned. They keep buying things but still aren't intrinsically happy. If they can't buy things, they believe they cant be happy. Moreover there's the expectation that we should be able to have or buy anything we desire... without the graft for it.

We're constantly bombarded with adverts to buy.

Of course, then there's the spin on illegal wars, and many other government movements that we are not told the truth about. This creates distrust. Because we don't just believe what we are fed anymore, we ask more questions. We can see 9/11 was dodgy as fuck , and know we're being told lies.

Our society over many years has geared us towards the illusion that material wealth equates happiness. Looking 'rich' is the only worthwhile aim. People's spiritual connection, and faith has been lost. Our community relationships replaced with Eastenders.

DISCIPLINE:

If a mum gives her kid a 'crack round the earole' she risks being prosecuted. Teachers are afraid to discipline their students. Many young people know exactly what they can 'get away with'. I'm no way archaic or shouting 'bring back the cane!!!!', but lets get real, discipline and respect needs to be instilled in our children, and very evidently it is not being.

POLICE - IT'S THEIR FAULT

The initial protest began when Mark Duggan was shot by a police officer. The investigation is still under way. Police fuck ups have been covered up many times, people are tired of it. I understand that our police force are human beings, not robots. Human, fallable, and make mistakes. To think there will never ever be any mistakes is to be unrealistic. What sticks in people's throats is the cover ups, the lack of responsibility taken. The lack of appropriate justice if an officer has broken the law.

Many black boys feel they are targetted unnecessarily, and are tired of it.

On the other hand, now people are crying out for the police to act, and come down hard on looters and rioters, and protect them.

It has been said that protests got really out of control after a number of police officers rushed and beat a 16 year old girl who went forward shouting, demanding answers and throwing stones at officers. I've seen the video, and it was wholly unneccesary. That, was police brutality.

It has appeared that the police have stood back for 3 nights while riots have gone on. So my mind starts firing... it's like you're letting them carry on. Waiting, garnering public support, and are we going to have new policies come through for increased policing, possibly infringing people's rights. Think about the laws that went through on the downlow after 9/11...

The police are disillusioned themselves, under pressure and cuts, and have been outnumbered by rioters at times. Why weren't more forces brought in sooner. 3 days of rioting is a MAJOR FAIL, it should have been contained sooner. Though I cannot be sure that the police alone are to blame for this.

POVERTY

Tottenham is known as a low income area, as were some of the areas hit by rioting. If you aint got nothing, and there's the prospect of some free shit - a big telly, new clothes and a pair of kicks; if you really don't have much, I can well understand anyone jumping in for a quick freebie.

The state of our economy and unemployment is another matter. Many of these children are at school or college, not yet fully in the job market, however I don't know what friends may have fed to them about their own struggle to find work.

It has been said that many young people feel disenfranchised, and that they have no propects.

CREDIT CARD CULTURE

Credit and borrowing, everybody buying things they can't afford, and children growing up with the expectaion, and demanding new/the best trainers, clothes etc. Parent's that are giving their children things, instead of discipline. I would say many more people of my generation, if your family couldn't afford it, you just didn't and couldn't have it. That has changed now.

The parents that feed the material demands of their children without question... out of guilt, need? What about waiting til you can afford it, encouraging kids to save? Having a realness about material things. we're all living on borrowed money, that essentially doesn't exist, but still needs to be repaid.

Now a lot of us are in debt, and struggling to pay the money back.

GOVERNMENT

Lets face it. The country is broke because we've been fighting an illegal war. On top of that the US economy is on the verge of collapse. And when that happens... it affects the rest of the world, and THE SHIT WILL HIT THE FAN.

Torys have to deal with this situation. I understand, there is no spare money, and no money to pay for everything we have become accustomed to as the current structure stands. Proposed, and already implemented cuts affect the most vulnerable in our society , more so if you are working class, lower income , and cannot pay for any private services. Front line services, nhs, social services, childrens services, mental health services, elderly services, youth clubs, and police have been cut.

Now lets remember that they were all struggling to begin with. So cutting them further SPELLS DISASTER.

Yet we've put millions in hosting the Olympics. Remember when the millenium dome was built, and we all thought, what the fuck is that for? It neither used much nor needed. IT COST MILLIONS.

The government have pissed our money up the wall on an illegal war, and now we're broke.

No wonder people are pissed off. I am too.

Why cant the fucking MPs and bankers take a pay cut, instead of social workers who try to protect our children, but are so overworked they cannot manage their cases. I worked for social services 6 years ago. I cannot imagine the pressure they are under now.

REVOLUTIONARIES

PRE PLANNED LOOTERS ARE NOT REVOLUTIONARIES. And revolutions aren't often known to mash up their own communities. I don't think these rioters planned to challenge the government and create new structures, but they did organise some good lootings of shops, so in that way there was some organisation.

Some would say it wasn't a case of 'we're gonna have a revolution' , but people want change, and feel angry. I think some people do, but I see that sentiment being taken over by people, thieves, and criminals organising looting. Then you have some opportunists cashing in too, joining in and taking over.

These kids have no common aim. Some may be venting because they feel angry. And this is the way they know how to do it.

PROSPECTS

1 in 5 young people out of a job apparantly. A failing economy, with little prospects for jobs, and cuts that will lead to more job losses.

What are the prospects.. working class are hit worst, becoming desperate, disillusioned. When people feel they have nothing left to lose, they will behave in line with that mind state. If you feel you have nothing to gain and nothing to lose, it's a very dangerous place to be. Because you don't give a shit anymore, about yourself, or anyone else, if you don't feel you have much to live for or look forward to, you dont care who you hurt.

ITS A RACE RIOT

All i can see on twitter is people saying this is not a race riot, do not try and make it out to be a race riot. The truth is all kinds of people are looting, the evidence is in the pictures.

Now, at 22.47 reports are coming through of racist taunts and BNP nd EDL mobilizing. What was not a 'race war' is slipping down a slope of escalating into one, because of certain fractions getting involved out of hate. I pray this is not true.

It scares the shit out of me, please do not take us back 50 years, creating hate and distrust, and 'no go' areas. Creating a race riot is creating war on our own doorstep that the vast majority of us have FUCK ALL to do with. We're not interested in vile, blind hatred.

WE GOTTA ASK HOW DID IT GET TO THIS. WHY THE HELL HAVE KIDS BEEN ALLOWED TO RULE THE STREETS. WHAT IS GOING WRONG IN OUR SOCIETY. ITS TRUE, WE ARE ESSENTIALLY ANIMALS, BUT NO CHILD IS BORN 'BAD'.

It was only when I arrived at court today that I realised the man getting beaten in my footage was Gabriel Diaz, one of the 5 people arrested on the night that we were there to see.

He walked into the dock wearing a neck brace, his head cut, his body bruised. He looked a mess to be honest, it was awful.

Initially it had been recommended they pay thousands of dollars for bail. After viewing my footage, and video footage given by other people at the scene, they were released without paying charges, pending investigation.

Gorgeous!!

I spent a while just taking in the scenery, I love being in Nature. Not so easy to find in New York :) This amazing structure/sculpture was right at the back of the park.

I took myself for a little explore around the Flushing, Queens area. It's got a large Oriental community, and hundreds of streets stalls and restaurants. It's maaaaad busy! Loads of fruit and veg stalls too at a decent price :)

I took myself for lunch at this lovely hotel... there was even a little waterfall running inside the reastaurant. The manager recommended the Kung Po and promised they would make it not spicey for me. True to his word, it didn't blow my head off and it was gorgeous!! He also gave me a artichoke houmous and flatbread starter.. yuummmmmmmmm

They were having a ballroom event and a band later that night and the manager (Caesar) invited me to come back. So in the spirit of adventure I of course agreed.

I had some time to kill so i went for a massage. I also had a technique called 'Cupping'. Won't
be having that again. They burn smoke into this glass cups and stick them to your back. Apprantly this draws out the toxins. I looked like a friggin alien afterwards!!!! Huge red raised lumps all the way down my back. I was freaking out...'ah it'll be alright' said the lady, and promptly took my credit card.

Look at the state of it! It's still red now!!!

As I was chilling in the hotel bar, listening to the band, looking like a freak, I got a last minute call from Yonnick to spin at a club in West New York called Amnesia.

Cue me ..CHECK PLEASE! and literally having to run (and will the train to go faster) back to Brooklyn, pick up my stuff, totally unprepared, then jump in a cab to Manhatten.. with sunburn from the park and a back that looks like a freakshow.

Thought you might want to see what I get up to on my travels!!

Week 1!

I was walking out in Williamsburg to go and meet some friends, when I saw this band out side Oyster Bar. I just stopped in the street to watch, they were so fabulous!! I brought my friend (who was in town from LA back to the spot.)

This place has 1920s decor and style. They serve oysters at the bar or table, and the cocktails were strong! We had Kentucky Derby day specials!

We were soon joined by DJ Commish who is a legend and all round cool cat, for roof terrace drinks!

I should have written this post sooner, because basically many of the days have merged into one hazy evening, but this night we went to Brooklyn Museum to catch DJ Evil D spinning!!! It was sick!!!! it finished at 10pm, people took their kids, the atmosphere was amazing and generally it was a lifted vibe. I couldn't get over it!! The chandaliers were stunning, but the walls... covered in gold skulls.. thats some next level business. Truely an interior designers dream.

I FEEL EXPERIENCE

My lovely friend Bukola organises the I Feel Expereince... a chance for aspiring models to gain valuable industry experience on shoots and videos. She asked me to come along and interview the models on the day for her website. I agreed... little did I know I'd end up doubling as make up artists after 2 of them could'nt do the shoot!

The two girls Nadia and Diana were lovely, and the shoot was to promote t shirts for artist Bundi who recently shot a video, which Nadia featured in!

It was a bit of a miserable day and we did a fantastic shoot in Bar Cubana. Bukola wanted a pop art make up theme for the girls with bright clothes.It worked well and we got some lovely shots.

I reckon I did pretty good, I think she'll be calling me again hahahaha

We had a really interesting and heated conversation after the shoot about Bundi's video you can see it HERE!

IT TOOK PLACE AT THE BRICKHOUSE ON BRICK LANE.. A GORGEOUS VENUE ON ABOUT THREE FLOORS
I am so impressed with the attention to detail, the money spent , and the ideas for this launch. It's possibly one of the best I've been to in terms of great ideas and looking after the crowd and making it memorable!

There was a huge pink chocolate fountain, candy floss machine, popcorn stand, games room, a top card magician, and Princess Nyah's B Girls trotting around looking gorgeous.

She also had a stand for her B Girl clothing label, her t-shirts are great!

There was a live band that did drown her out at times when she was performing, but it fantastic to go to all that effort. The bar guys has 'Big boys do big things' t shirts and the girls serving the pink chocolate had Princess Nyah pinnies on. I'm telling you, Attention to detail was the thing of the day. There were 2 warm up acts who were alright, and Nyah's performance was short and sweet. She doesn't have the strongest voice in the world and she definately knows how to market herself.

GO PRINCESS NYAH!! THIS GIRL IS ON HER GRIND YOU GOTTA LOVE THAT!

The cherry on top was the pink vinyl I picked up on the way out.

I'm definately a fan :)

Formerly held at the much loved Plan B, Throwdown is a monthly event/ battle / showcase for all you b boys and b girls out there.
New and nice vinyl laid on the night, you can literally walk in and put your name down to battle it out in various styles. It has a really nice vibe, with some cool people. The venue is fantastic with a balcony looking down onto the battle action and the not so ugly people ;) .

The DJ box is set high above the crowd in this room, and you can see everything that's going on from up there. The fella's span some nice tunes, and said they wanna get back to their much loved Plan B as soon as they can.

I performed Wind Your Neck In as Offkey productions were providing the entertainment, and there was also Asher, E Carlo and Manny Moscow.

It was a bit wierd singing away as the judges and some other peeps were sat behind me and a heap of people sat on the floor in front of me, as well as the people hanging over the balcony. We all had a laugh tho, and Asher's track went down really well.. the dude just came into his own soon as that mic was in his had. E Carlo had a strong presence and Manny Moscow owned the stage basked up by Blazin.

When it came to the Offkey boy's turn, Max held down the 1's and 2's while Liam and Christan got in the thick of it to hype evryone up!!

Leeds mc, singer, beatboxer (C'MON MAN SHARE THE WEALTH) TESTAMENT did a FREE set at Vibe Bar in Shoreditch last night. sometimes known as Homecut, he offered an ecclectic set with a loop peddal, basically beatboxing the beats as a back up and singing/mc'ing over the top with the help of a fantastic female singer/pianist about half way through.

He squeezed in a rendition of mos Def's Umi Say's...a favourite of mine, and some new cuts off his long awaited album: 'No Freedom Without Sacrifice', as well as a bit of beat boxing. He also performed the lead single from the album featuring Corrine Bailey Ray and Soweto Kinch: 'I Don't Even Know'.

Intelligent, spiritual and conscious, Testament/Homecut knows how to switch it up and keep it interesting, with solo's about his parent's stuggle as a mixed race couple and his thoughts on what no freedom without sacrifice means. and then a heavy beatbox session.

Check this dude out. He's taken 4 years over this album, he deserves a listen. Well thought out instrumentation and guest appearences from J Live , a skit from TY, and the angel voiced Andreya Triana...

Vibe Bar has a nice.... vibe :) really busy courtyard with a BBQ on hand to boot! There was another hip hop night on upstairs, so not much chance of getting bored. the crowd seemed relaxed and friendly enough.

Waiting for my girls I had a chance to dig at the weekly record fare in the courtyard. i gotta say it wasn't cheap tho, and there were some good finds! I only found a Crispy 3 record!! Big up my boy Mikey Don. If I remember, it was either £10 or £25 for the 12"!!!

I went snooping the net for a picture to show you as I didn't want to incriminate any particular individual, or snap someone to tell them : "I'm blogging you because I hate what you're wearing".

I found the one above left first. That's definately not what I meant.

I meant the other. See top right. Which is actually half decent as they go.

The reason I speak of this... what the hell did I see last night. A girl in just a shirt and a pair of tights. Not leggings. no, tights, like she was at home watching telly. Except she was in a bar and thought she looked rather cool. And today, In work, a rather chubby friend in the same attire. Except with out the Agnes Dean cheques.

I can see the tops of your tights love!?? Top of tight flashing serves as a warning to all women, as we well know, that your skirt; yes SKIRT, not SHIRT, is too short and you should dig out a more suitable model. You look ridiculous.

Now, come on, I'm not prude ladies and gents, but let's have it. Really should the ladies of Manchester be prancing along the street only half dressed?

Peru day 2 CUZCO

Early start for the flight to Cuzco. It´s a beautiful city, much more what I expected peru to look like that the big city we came from. Big green mountains, with trails of houses cascading towards the town. Cobbled streets, busy roads, noisy, beautiful. Theres a big Jesus on a hill (like rio) and a cross and some stunning churches and buildings.

I had lunch with a coupe who have recently been in brazil. It was a very authentic tavern full of Peruvians which is a good sign. I had a plate of lovely trout, followed by crepes with cocaleaf tes to combat the altitude sickness. I´ve been fine. A bit woosey at times. especially after carrying my backpach up three flights of stairs! We got out of breath quickly walking up what would normally feel like a gentle inclinr in the street. We´ve been advised to rest, so thats just what im about to do. Want to be well when we start the inca trail and apparantly the first few hours of acclimatisation are important.

I´ll write again when i can! xxx

1ST day in PERU

Its 3.50, here in Miraflores Peru. After gruelling flights[the last leg being 11 hours], I finally arrived at the hotel around 7am. The drive to the hotel was an experience in itself as there doesnt seem to be any set lanes of traffic, just a get in if you can policy. A new york girl I met here said someone bumped into their taxi on the way. No major damage so everyone moved on haha.
My room wasnt ready when i arrived. so I sat in the breakfast room, had orange juice, jam and bread, and set about writing some spanish phrases i`ll probably need. As it is I know yes and thankyou hahaha.

I ended up going on a tour with some other ladies at 9am and saw some of the sites, including st Fransico church. Theres a museum\house full of art work and mosaic and then there`s the CRYPTS. It was used as a cemetary for all of Peru and contains the bones of thousand of people. There were open graves and piles of bones and skulls, room after room! brrrrrrrrrrr. sppooky! Bearing in mind at this point I still hadnt showered or brushed my teeth. yak.

we went for lunch and had traditional cereviches and pisco sour. So thats shrimp and raw fish in a kinda mexican tasting sauce and very strong local alcohol thats mixed with something god and frothy on top. Welcome to peru!

Its beautiful and sunny, and Im looking forward to see what happens next and meeting the other people on the trip.

Just starting to feel a bit post airplane woosy. My feet are fat.

I went to Junior Reid’s listening party at Runway Lounge in the Flat Iron district of NYC. With obscene chandeliers, and a long luxurious bar I was interested to see how the night would progress. I was supposed to get an interview with Junior that evening, but it got hectic in V.I.P. and it seemed like half the press in New York had turned up to get a piece, so I had to wait…

In the club there was a photographer rolling around taking pictures of the girls in the least clothes and it wasn’t long before the ladies got up on the runway. A literal runway at about chest height that runs part way through the club. Cue girls making a show of themselves in competition to sexier than the next girl. It was embarrassing to watch. When some dudes started throwing money around like they were in a generic hip hop video to get the girls to ‘get low’ I knew it would soon be time to bounce.

It took a couple of days, and I eventually got the interview with Junior Reid, courtesy of Consultant VonJeff who had hooked me up. Luckily for me Dangerzone also manage Cecile and she was in town so I got to talk to her too!

Junior is one of the most experienced reggae artists in the industry and Cecile is never afraid to push boundaries and make waves. I had a little glass of wine and a great chat with them.

Going to the Puff Daddy fragrance release party was surreal. It was held at the Dream Hotel uptown; a beautiful space overlooking Times Square. Puffy was there with his mum, bad boy execs and various personal and industry friends. Oh and me, drinking champagne. I met up with Fanatic, an amazing producer who has worked with so many people it’s incredible he’s not a house hold name. He had so much to say about his pilot tv series, being successful and the changes he’s been through since being in New York. O’mas Keith was fabulous. He had me in stitches, such a talented down to earth guy.

The Rap Fanatic party was completely different! Cutty Ranks and Boot Camp Click took over and had the crowd hype.

LAUNCH PARTY FOR: WHAT THE F-UK IS NY STREET!? in conjunction with Agent J's SUNDAY SOCIAL

This is the first event I've ever put on!

Agent J held down the music all night while we had a busy bar full of Manchester's finest party goers and creatives! There were live P.A.'s from Konny Kon (Broke N English), Nia Jai (White Chalk Records) Lady Jay, Frisko and Bricks and The Mouse Outfit.

The viewing of the first episode of 'What The F-UK is NY street!?' was a huge success, with laptops co ordinated and dotted around the venue so people so view the episode while listening over the sound system.

All artists were great besides the fact that the rubbish sound system started playing up and made it difficult to hear both the beat and the artists at once so there was lots of playing around with levels, a bit of panic, and generally great professionalism from the artists who smashed it regardless!!!

First up was Konny Kon. Konny was awarded the BBC Urban Bursery award in 2008 and is currently building his studio and working on new music, alongside being one of the hottest DJ's in the city.

Next up was Bricks - heavyweight beatboxer and musician and Frisko. Unfortuneately they didn't do their set due to problems with sound.

Ultra talented and specially lovely Clare from The Mouse Outfit jumped in to save the day and played Sax over a selection of fanatastic vinyl!!

Ros Okusanye www.livingedge.co.uk (left) took some fantastic photos to document the evening as the crowd got increasingly merry.

Nia Jai aka Mz Manny showed us how it's 'sposed to be done with a short and engaging set, conquoring any apparant P.A. issues. That girl shone!

It was time to inject some soul into this joint so I stepped up, accompanied by Clare from the Mouse Outfit to Perform 'Touch'. It was an incredible, intimate vibe with the live sax; Clare really got the feel of the track and we smashed it.
Then R DOT from Mouse Outfit jumped up and got it rockin!

As the night wore on various people came through, and at the end of the evening a little cypher developed...
which was interrupted only by some crazy b**ch who kept grabbing the mic and garbling s**te. Yea thanks luv. And throwing herself around the floor dancing like an intoxicated zebbedee. Still. It's all entertainment.

And they've asked us to put another event on.. so we'll see....

I know this story has been going on a few days, but really, is this mother f**ker insane??
Now we hear he may be charged with assault with a deadly weapon!? What weapon was that!? Really though, Rhianna was in a bad way according to reports. Her injuries were described as 'horrific'.

Dudes going to court March 5th. I should think so too! I place my bet he get's off with some stupid fine and 2 hours community service.

The couple apparantly split a few weeks ago, but have been keeping up appearances until after the Grammys. Things got heated and reports suggest a fight broke out after Rhianna threw Chris' car keys out of the window ,she was trying to get home after Chris received a taxt from another woman. Chris beat Rhianna severely, choked her, she passed out and he dumped her at the side on the road.

Passers by called an ambulance and the police as Chris left the scene.

Chris later handed himself in with his attourney Mark Geragos (the lawyer famous for representing Michael Jackson). Hmmm.

And still I keep seeing 'was it Chris' in the news?? Like they don't want to confirm it's him.

Today I had a quick scan on the net and it seems Chris Brown's people, or some people, are spreading a story that the reason he beat her was because she gave him herpes. Trying to save face Chris?

What? and this just happened to come to light in the car on the way to the Grammys?

Even if if were true, and I think it's probably just a media spin, no one deserves to be beaten up like that. It's disgusting.

He's messed himself up, the world loves that girl, and he's gonna pay big time in his career I think. Already Wrigley has announced that the company will suspend advertisements featuring Brown and his song “Forever” in ads for Doublemint chewing gum.

Jay Z who mentored Rhianna is reported to have said: “ Chris is a walking dead man. He messed with the wrong crew.”

According to police reports Rhianna has stated that he has hit her in the past and the abuse escalated over time

So there I was, minding my own business on my way to the new sunday night event at CORD (thanks to my boy Jamie, and the Fat City peeps) when i trot past this electro coloured new shop. Open, lights on, gone 9 pm.

Well, i promptly knocked the door and requested to be let in right away. And there I met the good folks at Babycakes.

Babycakes. Currently available online and soon available in the real person in the Northern Quarter opposite Common. Apparantly the shop opens in August. Brilliant, bright, quirky neon design t shirts and accessories are what you'll find at Babycakes. I loved it immediately, it's so fresh, I just know they're gonna be huge.

The company's only been up and running 18 months and they're already putting parties on up and down the country and have their products placed with major label artists.

Hailing form Burnley, the owners are just lovely, creative people and we so welcoming!!!

Officers were called to the site in Slough, Berkshire, after staff discovered the stowaways in the back of a 37-tonne tanker.

It had been delivering chocolate ingredients to the confectionery firm which produces bars such as Mars, Snickers and Twix.

The 15 men, who were all aged between 20 and 40, were examined by ambulance staff before being arrested, Thames Valley Police said.

They were were "physically fine", a spokesman said.

Three other men on a second lorry which was not going to the factory were also detained.

A spokesman for the UK Border Agency confirmed that 18 men in total were arrested and those found at the Mars site were "covered in cocoa powder".

A Mars spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a number of people were found hiding in a tanker operated by a third party haulier that had arrived at our factory in Slough to deliver raw materials.

"We immediately informed the Thames Valley police who are now investigating the matter.

"In view of the police involvement, you will understand that we cannot comment further."

Independent Release
Anyone with proper financing, good music, and thorough music industry experience could choose to put out music independently. With the financial beating that most indie distributors are taking (the economy is in the toilet, in case you live under a rock), and ease with which one could upload and sell music digitally, it is easier now more than at any time in the history of music sales, to go independent.

With an indie release, the owner of the music has the ability and control. He or she controls where to market, promote, and advertise; what music to release and when to release it; what music to make; the image of the artist; the market, region, and territory; how much money to spend and where to spend it….basically all aspects of the project.

Since releasing the CD is most likely one’s sole occupation regarding music, the decision of when to release the music and how long to work the project becomes contingent upon the demand in the marketplace instead of a decision based on other releases within the indie label. The single can be worked for 12 weeks or for more than a year. The release of the album can occur after the first single or after three or four singles and numerous mixed CDs. The duration of the marketing plan can stretch from a few months after release to a year and a half after. The market climate and demand for the music will dictate the length of the project. The set up for the project can be two years prior to release or three months prior. The label decides based on the reaction of the potential consumers in the marketplace.

The team hired to work the project can be made from the available people most qualified to work the project. Outside consultants and promoters can be hired, and if they aren’t working out well, they can be replaced in a timely fashion without damaging the project. If the consumer isn’t reacting to a single or a style, an indie label can re-release a better suited single, or respond to the marketplace with a remix. An indie label is like a jet ski in the ocean able to turn easily, whereas a major label is like an ocean liner. It takes a long time and a wide space to turn an ocean liner off its programmed course, while a jet ski can turn on a dime.

Let’s look at the financials:
If a CD sells for $10 wholesale through an indie distributor, and there is an 80/20 split in place, the indie label receives $8 for each sold CD and the distributor keeps $2 per CD. For 100,000 CDs sold independently, the indie stands to make $800,000 in gross revenues. If the CD is being sold through chain stores, such as FYE or Best Buy, there will be an additional $2 in price and positioning that goes to the chain out of the label’s share.

The cost to press CDs fluctuates depending on the volume and where the CDs are pressed. Cost can range anywhere from 38 cents a CD to 75 cents a CD, or close to $1, if the distributor supplies the pressing (that is called a P&D deal for pressing and distribution).

Because the indie label is seen as “the underdog,” they often get reduced rates for advertising, promotion, pressing, production, recording fees, etc. And because the indie labels usually have less financing than a major label, their target market is usually a smaller area and the project is spread slowly as finances become available from sales of the project. Touring is more difficult because of the reduced funding, and it’s rare that a major publication or a major television or cable show covers an indie artist. If seeing your artist hand out an award at one of the award shows, such as the Grammy Awards, is important to you, it’s doubtful that will ever occur for an indie artist. Securing video play at MTV and BET is also next to impossible these days.

Major Label Release
Major releases are an “advance” game. The key to financial freedom for an artist is to secure as much money upfront as possible, and then to deliver the album for as little as possible and keep the split. This advance game was far easier to play in the 90s when the labels were flush with cash and could easily be talked into cutting big checks upfront. Those days seem to be over as major labels are hurting financially. Artists have also learned to deliver one or two hit radio singles so they can secure as many shows as possible performing the hit single(s). The major labels responded with 360 Deals—a way of eating into more of the artists’ share of the income.

Once an artist is about to be signed to a major label, the accountants and financial folks do a spreadsheet analyzing the possible sales potential for that artist. Once that figure is attained, the labels never offer more to the artist (even though it’s almost all recoupable) than is feasible for their risk tolerance. In today’s economy, for a newer artist, that figure can be anywhere from $125,000 to $350,000. For a more established artist, that figure is often $1 a CD based on the sales of the previous CD. [Most contracts allow for an advance of 66% of whatever royalties were paid out for the previous release—but since few artists ever recoup, I have never found that formula applicable.]

Once the album is recorded, the label decides where in their multiple release schedule the artist fits. If the album has numerous hits and promise of strong sales, the label may put the artist into the release schedule sooner than if they feel the release is just mediocre. This is often the opinion of staff members who are far away from the streets and have little clue about what’s hot and what’s not. The consumers aren’t fickle and out of touch, the gatekeepers at the labels are. I have seen artists sit for many, many years at major labels just waiting to come out. The artist has no income while sitting still.

Once the artist is on the release schedule, it’s difficult to change that date. It’s costly for a major to make changes (see jet ski versus ocean liner analogy in the Indie Label section). Once the single is in the pipeline, it’s usually a done deal. The major label works the single usually 3 months ahead of the album’s release date with the intention of dropping a second single and the album at the same time. Because there are other releases in the major’s pipeline, this schedule must be adhered to tightly, and change

OK OK!! So I'm mad late with this! I'm a busy woman what can i say? The Ludacris Album release party was off the hooooooooook!!! Hosted by HOT 97 DJ's Angie martinez, DJ Enuff and a few more, this was a strict ticket by application only. i think the station had been giving some away as prizes and people all over New York had been applying to get tickets for the show.

LUDA brought out LL COOL J, DJ PREMIERE, JADAKISS, SHAWNA, T PAIN, JIM JONES it was ridiculous

LUDACRIS KNOWS HOW TO PUT ON A GOOD SHOW. You know what, I didn't expect it to be as amazing as it was. I certainly didn't expect him to be bringing out so many superstars on one stage. It was a real good look to rep New York like that. The crowd just went off. I don't even like T Pain and I loved seeing him live.

Definately see Ludacris live if you get chance. The album Theatre Of The Mind is out now..... and this gotta be the best album release party I been too.
Luckily for me I was in VIP so I didnt get squished by all the people, and could film, it'll be in the web series shortly! Tho that said it was a really really cool crowd, everyone lovin the music. All good vibes for real!

Had some very nice pink cocktails with my good friend Dawn Simpson and T Global (House of Talent Entertainment) and even caught up with Sway from MTV!!

Of course i was tryna get back stage for an interview, but it was not happenin..

When we got outside there was hummer jeeps and randoms with billboards promoting the album it was funny as hell! What an amazing night.

Shawna has some incredible attitude she demands that stage and her arse is good too. ha ha nah, she is a fierce performer.

when LL COOL J came out tho, THAT!!!! THAT was the one. He CONTROLS the crowd, he presence was so strong it jumped off the stage grabbed you by the throat and beat you with pure skill and style.

it's the first time I've ever seen the legend live, oh my god. He's incredible.

Humanity and Planet Earth are currently going through a huge change or shift in consciousness and reality perception.

A NIGHT AT THE DOGS

OOH! I went to the dogs last night, the premier working class betting passtime of choice! Hurrah! It was the first time I've been and I loved it!
And I won! Lots of times!! Arrr i'll definately go again, a big group of us all had dinner (with lots of drinks) and placed are bets.Some of the guys showed me how to decipher 'the form' as they had been reading in special betting papers about the whippets. I understood it a little tho if I looked too long it made me crosseyed haha.

We went out by the trackside in the freezing cold clutching our wine shouting faster hound FAAAAAASSTTTERRRR haha. I love winning! I can't believe I lost on the last race when I bet on 3 dogs!!! The only time I did and I didn't win WTF!

Oh, and their roast potatoes were all sugary and sweet and I loved em.

Black beans are just that. I don't know what I thought it would be. I think I thought Refried Beana - um yum, mexican. Instead I was presented with this smelly platter when I went for lunch with Dan from Koch Records. I cosed my eyes to taste this indiscernable mass. At first I thought, ok, it's not as bad as it's purplish appearance.

But actually it was garlicy and squidgey in my mouth with lumps of onion.

I'm not a fan.

Obama paintings

I took a wander around lower east side, just to kinda get familiar and see whats about. I came across this amazing wall painting in support of Obama! Everyones really really relieved he got in. Mccain wasn't an option, people were threatening to leave the country if Mccain had become president. The people who stood up to be counted amaze me. Y'all should know I'm cynical about politics. Really its another mask on the same players, and still a part of me believes a lot of good will come from this. I think it's brilliant and i wish him all the luck and light in the world.

I had a few interesting converations about it all; from Americans who were ecstatic, to others who believe him to be 'a house nigger'. Damn. And it's no wonder they're slow to have any trust..why should they. Black people have been fucked over so many times in the US.

People were fretting about the economy, and also it seems the people are so ready to move forward and leave the bush era behind. Some said they see it as a revolution in a way, as well as a turning point in history.

On the whole, It was great to see so many people so positive about change. Can't blame em after bush can yer. He has certainly revolutionised the way politicians relate to citizens, with the heavy empahasis at online marketing and setting up forward thinking action groups accross the country. There were massive networks of people calling and door to dooring to get people to vote.

Good job people!

So, here the journey begins. phase 2 of filming 'What the f%8k is NY Street'. As you can see the weather here in Manchester is as spectacula as ever.

I have no idea what to expect, I have a couple things lined up, but doing my usual and just turning up and seeing where the adventure happens to take me!

The BBC urban bursery award has paid for my flights (hurrah) and i am ARMED with all kinds of elctroniacallist equipment im not sure how to use. This should be fun... i've been tryna get to grips with serato as im not feeling paying to take all me vinyl with me.

My back pack weighs a ton, i look like a goddam hero in a half shell!!! I have 2 huge bags, which is unusual for me I usually pack pretty light but I packed a whole heap of jumpers cos it's supposed to be freezing this time of year!

I'll be staying in the Lower East sde which is a cool place for sure. Just by the Williamsburg bridge with an english homie who has very kindly offered to put me up. BIG UPS FOR THAT!

OMG. No joke, I was cyber flashed last night in the pub in London! Cyber flashed I hear you say?

Some f&&cker sent a picture of his piece to my phone by bluetooth anonymously. I don't know how the hell that happened. I left my bluetooth on by mistake. Now my peeps are laughing their head off, because apparantly I've been flashed more than anyone they know, I'm disgusted.

Currently working with Sobe Records, the Dangerzone fam had me in fits laughing, the camera man ended up shaking the camera all over the place hahaha! So apologies for wobbly footage at the end.

Dmc was one of the safest guys I met the whole time i was in NY. He picked me up from Hot 97 and we chatted for an hour in the car all the way to Chuck D's house in Long Island. He talks a lot of sense about the current hip hop market. Dude's funny and totally down to earth.

He talked to me about how he discovered he was adopted; and that this lead him to create the Emmy nominated documentary about his journey to find his birth mother!! I got so much more than I bargained for!

Another thing is that he just can't get on the radio in NY unless it's a specialist 'Golden Era' show, so he's just taking it back to the beginning and rushing the mic whereever he goes! hahahaha

Surreal

ooo it's all feeelin quite surreal at the moment.

On the plane my stomach was flippin everytime I remember what i was doin which was at least every hour. I managed to read my NY book on the way and look at some of the things I want to do while I'm here.

The taxi man got us well lost trying to find the place im stayin in. yo we were drivin around the same streets over and over, I was showing him the map, then he ignored it, then looked at the map, then ignored it...? It was a shuttle bus so there was this old lady in the back seat waiting to get home,(she had a broken nack or something) who was nearly crying because she wanted to get home so bad.

People were calling here wondering where the hell she was. Then the driver nearly got into a fight with another driver, and I was like yo! keep your seatbelt on I wanna get where I'm supposed to be goin.

apparantly bed -stuy where the hostel is, is the hood, and also everyone here says they've never had a problem which is nice to know.

shortly after i arrived i got on the computer, hit craigslist and called some sublets.
i found one in williamsburg -top of Bedford Ave one stop from manhatten with a lovely couple, and the girl is from wales! So i move in today (thurs) from 2 pm, saw a friend that lives close by last night for a couple hours and had a glass of wine in a lovely bar. At like 11.30 pm I was getting delierious as it would have been 4.30am uk and I'd been up 24 hours and feeling spacey from flying so came home to bed. After going through a late night car wash that had mpore flashing lights that blackpool. I was pissing myself, no one else understood why.

i still dont feel settled, tho i know i'll be better when i'm in the new place and i feel secure. agggh
all the houses and the roads and the cars are different its mad it feels sssssssoooooooooooo strange. I've just been looking at them..

Cos it's not a usual holiday, and , I'm not in a hotel and off sightseeing straight away or on the beach it feels odd. Like, what am I doing here?

I'm sharing a room with other girls, I was on the top bunk. Some fuckers alarm was going off extra loud every 10 minutes for an hour, npo joke. I got up in the end, exclaiming I was being tortured. I just could take rock music that time of the morning!

well,

im trying not to be nervous. im supposed to be staying with a friend of a friend when i go to NY. Now i cant get hold of her. .... oooooh dear. looks like it might be a youth hostel job at this rate.
Steady keeping the faith that the right thing will come at the right time.

I've started packing , and my main issue is reducing the number of shoes I take on the journey. I've only packed one pair of trainers, cos i know ill buy some when I'm there. wanna take couple pairs of heels, but i know ill be walking everywhere and i dont do feet pain.
ideally id take about 3 pairs of boots! hahaha .dont think that is wise tho. DAMN!
i need an extra case for shoes. i have also packed about 4 books, im not sure why i expect ill have time to read them.
i also need to get a case for the video camera i dont know how to use yet. this should be an interesting journey...

i keep thinking im gonna pop up there and be like..'what the fuck now??' haha. ill be reading my NY book on the plane like mad, sweating and making LISTS!!! oh yea, i love lists hahahahaha
